Position Description

Cartherics is seeking a talented, appropriately educated (eg Post-Doctoral Fellow, Post-Graduate, Research Assistant or equivalent) with outstanding writing skills and a solid knowledge base in biomedical science and research. This preferably includes one or more of immunology and immunotherapy, stem cells, cancer biology, gene editing and molecular biology and clinical trials. The successful employee will work closely with the Cartherics science and clinical teams to help with a range of written projects including manuscripts for publication in high ranking journals, grant applications, appropriate documents for regulatory, clinical and ethics approvals.

We recognise that the fields of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)–T and NK-cell based immunotherapies and their derivation from stem cells (the core technologies of Cartherics Pty Ltd) are complex and will require appropriate educational upskilling, which Cartherics will provide assistance with.

Cartherics’ primary platform is to develop allogeneic off-the-shelf CAR-T and CAR-NK cells by using CRISPR for appropriate gene editing of induced pluripotential stem cells (iPSC) to embed one or more CAR specificities but also delete genes which could inhibit the CAR-T or CAR-NK cell function. These gene edited-iPSC are then being induced to differentiate into cytotoxic NK or T cells using highly innovative technologies developed by Cartherics.

The successful applicant will thus have a strong desire to become fully acquainted with Cartherics’ technology, results and their clinical translation and take ownership of the very important role of data publication, and supportive grant applications. They will interact with the breadth of Cartherics’ research, regulatory and clinical personnel, in particular the Chief Executive Officer, and will have a desire to help Cartherics succeed in a competitive environment and relish the challenge of helping promote Cartherics. The rewards will be substantial – including the transforming of cancer therapy.

Salary range depending on qualifications and experience $75,000 – $90,000 pa. plus 9.5% superannuation.

Company Description

Cartherics Pty Ltd (www.cartherics.com) is an exciting new Melbourne-based start-up biotechnology company, developing the next generation immune therapeutic approach to treat cancer. The company’s objective is to develop an autologous CAR-T cell product using sophisticated gene editing to empower these cells with additional cancer-specific recognition and activation molecules. Cartherics will use this information as a fore runner to inducing CAR-T and CAR-NK cells from iPSC and exponentially expanding these “cancer smart” killer cells. The laboratories are presently located within the new facilities of the Monash Health Translation Precinct at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, VIC 3168.
